As a Non-Executive Director of Beyond Here CIC, Dr Hugo provides guidance, governance and strategic oversight across the organisation, helping to shape its development and ensure that Beyond Here remains focused on its purpose and the needs of the communities it serves. He brings a wealth of clinical, professional and personal experience, alongside a broad understanding of health, wellbeing and the challenges people can face when living with ongoing health conditions.
Dr Hugo is an NHS Cancer Consultant and one of the very few members of the so called Golden Triangle for having degrees from the 3 most prestigious UK Universities: PHD in Cancer Genetics from UCL, Postdoctoral Fellowship in Tumour Immunology from The University of Cambridge and Medical Oncology Degree from Oxford University Hospitals. He is also a CRUK Campaigns Ambassador, one of Maggie’s Clinical Leads, Melanoma Fund Trustee, Health advisor for Governments around the World and Cancer Alliance Community Champion.
Dr Hugo has seen first hand, through his own cancer diagnosis and through treating patients with Cancer for the last 10 years, the feelings of abandonment, fear and unfairness this awful disease brings. He works with National Charities to improve outcomes for people affected by cancer, but also recognises that living with ongoing health challenges can have a profound impact on everyday life, particularly when symptoms persist and people are left feeling isolated, uncertain or without the right support.
He believes that people need more than clinical care alone. They need to feel connected, understood and supported to rebuild their confidence and wellbeing.
Beyond Here brings that support into the local community. Whether someone is living with or beyond cancer, or navigating persistent health challanges, Beyond Here provides a place to connect with others, find your tribe and access practical support and empowering community groups.
A community ready to catch you, help you feel heard, seen, valued and validated, and support you in finding a way forward.
